How long do post-COVID-19 complications last? How can they be managed?
Even after recovering, F0 patients may still experience a wide range of post-COVID-19 symptoms and long-term effects lasting from 2 to 6 months, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, rapid heartbeat, muscle pain, hair loss, and hormonal imbalance. Some symptoms may resolve on their own, while certain post-COVID complications can worsen and require hospitalization, affecting both health and finances.
Many patients need medical check-ups because of cough and shortness of breath, especially during physical exertion, exercise, or climbing stairs. In most cases, these respiratory abnormalities are caused by lung damage after COVID-19 infection.
This is a common post-COVID condition among F0 patients, with the most frequent complications being pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis, both of which can seriously impair respiratory function. In particular, prolonged cough and shortness of breath after COVID are more likely to persist in patients with a history of severe pneumonia, mechanical ventilation, ECMO treatment, advanced age, or prior oxygen therapy.
During post-COVID examinations, doctors may order chest X-rays or CT scans to assess the lungs and detect conditions such as consolidation, ground-glass opacities, scarring, fibrosis, or peripheral lung damage. Depending on the symptoms, patients may be prescribed pulmonary rehabilitation, while some cases require hospitalization for pneumonia or lung infection treatment.
